How is being a school bus driver? I lost my job recently and I’ve been struggling to land another thanks to the current job market. There’s a part of me that’s hedging and looking at what else I might be able to do for work if I can’t land another IT role quickly enough

This is actually a big part of many of the high speed charging standards that phones use, is it will actually charge at a higher voltage to lower the amperage. I don’t know off the top of my head if USB-PD does this on phones but I know the old Qualcomm Quick Charge standard did it a lot. I think it went as high as 24V if I remember correctly
Then of course for a while lots of phones supported competing standards of quick charging and nobody allowed anyone else to use the same branding so identifying compatible chargers for your phone’s specific type of quick charge was a royal pain in the butt

New USB bout to drop!English1·3 hours agoWireless charging is nice for when you’re using your phone infrequently, such as at your desk while you’re working on something else. It sits there charging, you grab it to respond to a message then set it back down. No tail to worry about, it’s not getting tangled on other wires when you dare to move your phone, etc.
It’s really a feature I never cared about until I got a wireless charger as a gift

Naaah it’s more fast typing and not correcting. The only abbreviation I see is shorting “have” to “hv” which honestly could also be a typo

But you know what is hard to find? Anything supporting the wild story you spun to dunk on people who are trying to be decent to their fellow human
None of those are federated services that allow anyone to run an instance off a random computer in their basement and be able to interact with everyone else on the service. That’s the incredible chasm between any commercial social media platform and the Fediverse. It’s how I’m writing this comment from an instance with about a hundred active accounts hosted by a dude in Australia to you, an account on an instance operated by some of the developers of Lemmy and hosted in Europe, and another commenter responded to this comment from another instance run as a queer space with about 2500 active users hosted on a VPS in Helsinki. If any one of these servers went offline indefinitely, all of our comments and posts would remain up on all of the servers they were federated to. That’s part of the glory of the Fediverse!

The difference between AAA and indie is more on the scope of how much artwork, sound design, writing, voice acting, Foley work, etc. goes into the game
A solo independent developer can pretty easily recreate the mechanics of GTA V in Unreal for example, but they can’t realistically recreate a selectively compressed representation of the entire LA and San Bernardino counties plus a 14 hour (or however long it is) single player campaign
Surprisingly enough it’s incredibly technically feasible.
The biggest challenge is actually maintaining good standing with the federal government because over the last 20 years or so they’ve been racking on more and more income taxes on foreign income, and if you live abroad as a US citizen you’re still legally required to pay income tax. Then once expats started renouncing their citizenship because of the rapidly increasing cost of maintaining a citizenship they no longer needed the federal government started throwing more and more barriers up to make it harde and more time consuming to renounce your citizenship
I mean, most of the time they don’t really check. At worst you might get a company which wants a paystub or two to verify income but those are just PDF files that can be edited. If you’re already planning on breaking some laws and contracts, nothing to stop you from breaking a few more
Because of that time horizon my wife briefly had no credit score at all. She trashed her score at 18 then never tried to touch credit again because “I already know my credit is trash” then it all fell off (and whatever went to collections had already been garnished from her tax returns and whatnot) and she effectively had a clean slate with no credit history
Its all part of the risk calculation that’s made by the loan companies that make these credit offers to those deemed to be high credit risk.
Who they really are trying to hook are people who live paycheck to paycheck and keep rotating a balance of old loan balances and newer loan balances because between origination fees, interest, late fees and any other BS fees they decide to tack on they can make absolute bank indefinitely off of folks who struggle with budgeting and are constantly one surprise away from taking on more debt. Alternatively its folks who think in terms of monthly payments and nothing else
My wife has had bad credit for a good chunk of the time we’ve known eachother, and its really incredible seeing what circumstances cause the offer letters to start or stop flowing. Basically the only thing that made the offer letters stop fully was when she got a head injury and couldn’t remember to do any weekly or monthly tasks and defaulted on all 3 of her credit cards. That stopped the letters for a few months until the first couple of cards were paid off in full from collections and then the credit offer letters started flowing again.
Trainguyrom@reddthat.comto Games@lemmy.world•Vintage gaming advertising pictures: a galleryEnglish5·13 hours agoTo be fair, an indie dev just tossing stuff together on the weekends and evenings has everything needed in these accessible game engines to build a AAA title of 15+ years ago.
The Fediverse has scaled impressively well and currently boasts millions of active users, and about the only thing that seems to actually be shaking smaller instances hosted by hobbyists on very tight budgets are if an AI scraper finds them and starts trying to use them as an ingress point to slurp up Fediverse content (which is honestly sad given they could simply spin up their own instance to suck data down via Federation)
When I was younger and worked at a grocery store, I had a coworker confide in me that they stop home on their breaks for a shot of vodka. At the time I saw it as “whatever you have to do to survive!” But now I see it as the massive red flag that it is that she’s a functioning alcoholic.
